Q1. What is your current role at Dufaylite, and how long have you worked here?
Managing Director, I have been with the company for 17 years.
Q2. What was your first job?
Dufaylite, working in the R&D department when the company was first developing Ultra Board.
Q3. What advice would you give to someone starting out in your industry?
Don’t underestimate the knowledge and power you can gain from visiting other companies and learning from others.
Q4. What challenges do you foresee for the industry in the coming year?
Packaging – the industry balancing demand and supply.
Ultra Board – the decline of the high street.
Construction – Economic uncertainty through the Brexit process stalling project starts.
Q5. Who in your career has inspired you?
High profile wise – Steve Jobs and his vision and drive for excellence.
Closer to me – My father for all the ways he has taught and inspired me.
Q6. If you were not in your current role what would you like to be doing?
Professional Golfer
Q7. What are your hobbies/interests away from the office?
Rugby, golf, fitness, skiing, eating out and socialising with friends and family.
Q8. If you could have dinner with any three people from any time, fictional or non-fictional, who would they be and why?
Steve Jobs – as he’s been an inspiration and changed many huge industries.
Grandfather – I never got to meet my father’s father.
Nelson Mandela – for his determination to continue.
Q9. Which country would you most like to visit and why?
Iceland – because it is totally different to most of the countries I have visited and people speak so highly of it. It is definitely on my list.
Q10. What is your favorite book?
I favour non fiction books and my favourite is a Management book called “Good to Great” by Jim Collins.
Q11. What is your proudest moment?
Becoming Managing Director of Dufaylite at the age of 33.
Q12. What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.
